Bahama sailing charters are available from one day adventures to full vacations on the ship lasting a week or more. Boating is an integral part of life and vacations in the Caribbean. For a week in June, Grand Bahama Island is host to the Bahamas Regatta. Boats from all over converge on the island. Bahama sailing charters are more expensive and more difficult to book at this time, but are definitely worth the added cost for boat lovers.
Sailing on an international yacht charter
Taking an international yacht charter is a luxurious way to see the Bahamas. Most companies depart from either Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Florida and sail to Nassau. Many sailing yachts can accommodate six people. If the price tag for the charter is a little steep, consider travelling with two other couples and split the cost of the trip. You will end up paying no more for your trip than you would pay for airfare and a room at one of the resorts.
Vacationing aboard a yacht allows you to take full advantage of the waters by windsurfing and snorkelling from the boat. You can choose to soak up the sun on the deck or from the beach of a forgotten Caribbean island. Your captain will know where to find small deserted islands of the coast of Bahama. In the evenings, you can go ashore to enjoy the casinos and other nightlife activities available onshore. If you’d rather enjoy a private romantic setting, stay on the ship and gaze at the stars.
Some charter companies offer an all inclusive package, which includes the costs of food, fuel and docking fees. The other option is to pay a flat fee for the boat and the captain and pay for other expenses separately. You can choose to pay a daily fee for meals, or purchase your own food. This option is popular with people who plan to enjoy the nightlife on the islands and aren’t planning to dine on the ship in the evenings. You will also be responsible for any docking or customs fees charged during your trip.
Depending on the situation, other services may be offered to add to the adventure. Nearly all companies offer transportation to and from the airport. Some captains offer sailing instruction for an additional fee. Others will let you assist with the rigging and sails. If this appeals to you, mention it to the travel broker when you are researching Bahama sailing charters.
